Catalogue Note: Italian-born, Frank Gervasi (1895-1986) moved to the United States in 1908. He served with valor in World War I, where he lost his right arm at the Battle of the Somme. Remarkably, after the war he learned to paint with his left hand while studying with Robert Henri at the Art Students League in New York. He exhibited widely in his lifetime, receiving numerous accolades. Gervasi moved to Texas in 1960 and began to focus on Western landscapes, the work for which he is perhaps best known.
