FRANZ XAVER WINTERHALTER (BRITISH, 1803-1875) PRINT OF PRINCE ARTHUR, subject in a Grenadier Guards uniform, given to him by his mother, Queen Victoria, on his birthday in 1853, ink inscription at bottom edge "Arthur - 1855 - after a picture by Winterhalter". On the reverse is a typed note: "This picture was given to Fitzroy Fyers, by the Duke of Connought, at Christmas 1938". The Duke of Connaught was the third son of Queen Victoria, Fyer's was a Lieutenant, 2nd Battalion, Rifle Brigade". Together with the book "Queen Victoria's Sketchbook" by Marina Warner. Two pieces total. Circa 1855. Print 11 1/4" x 17" OA.
Print in good overall visual condition with moderate toning. Frame with minor wear. Not examined out of frame.
