Lot 0149
Made By J. & E. Stevens Company Cromwell, Ct. - Circa 1888 The extremely fine detail deployed here has led collectors to speculate that Charles Bailey designed the Milking Cow Bank. It represents one from the quartet of banks known as the “pedestal banks”. A boy has set his milking stool beside a suitable cow. Pennies placed in the slot in the cow’s back are deposited when the red lever is pressed. Simultaneously, the cow’s tail rises and her right rear leg kicks the boy over.
