9th-11th century AD. An iron boar-spearhead with lentoid-section triangular blade, long neck, tapering socket with hole for an attachment pin, two lateral spurs; mounted on a custom-made stand. Cf. Arbman, H. Birka I: Die Gräber, Uppsala, 1940, table 7 item 1. 1.07 kg total, spearhead 32cm (12 1/2"). From the family collection of a London gentleman; formed in the late 1940s-1950s; thence by descent.
