Central America, Guatemala, ca. mid-20th century CE. A wonderful hand-carved polychrome wooden slingshot. The instrument depicts a playful monkey in hues of blue, green, and cream, with wide eyes, large bulbous head, with hands to knees in a crouching position, and tail winding up its back to its shoulders. The slingshot portion is comprised of two sets of three-pronged sling holders which taper to a sturdy shaft. Created in Guatemala, the word for slingshot is "ondilla" or "hondilla." Size: 1.25" L x 0.75" W x 5.75" H (3.2 cm x 1.9 cm x 14.6 cm).
