Two primitive federal document boxes: 1) Fancy burlwood veneer work, inlaid shells in corners, inlaid oval fan in center of lid, and shield shaped bone escutcheon - 13"W x 8"D x 6"H - some losses to inlay, some use wear but overall good condition; 2) Figured mahogany box with inlaid mariner's compass on lid - device holding mechanism on interior, likely for holding an instrument, probably nautical related - 11"W x 7.5"D x 6"H. Use wear to lid, small repair to back apron of lid, minor veneer losses. Both early to mid 19th century.
