A rare example of classic form, the hilt with fibrous horn grips and silvered guard, the mounts of silver elegantly engraved in Ottoman geometrical and vine motifs. The broad, T-section blade with fine gold-inlaid floral cartouches to either side; at the right forte, MASH' ALLAH (God’s blessing,) and YA ALLAH, ALI! and at the left forte, MASH’ ALLAH and AMAL ASSAD ALLAH (Work of Assad Allah.) Wrought of fine Turkish Rose twistcore damascus steel, with fullering at the spine and gold-inlaid panels at the yelman or back edge. In its velvet-covered wooden scabbard with large silver mounts decorated en suite. Beginning of the 19th century. Stable crack to grip, guard loose, velvet refreshed. Overall length 81.4cm. Condition III
