A PERSIAN SHAMSHIR SWORD

Qajar Dynasty, a rare form. The hilt Syrian, with dark horn grips, the guard gold inlaid. The fineblade displaying complex forging; broad, single-edged and multi-fullered, and forged of Persian black damascus wootz steel retaining much glossy finish, with finely inlaid gold panels to each side of the forte with inscriptions invoking God’s blessing. In its leather-covered wooden scabbard, the steel mounts with silver-inlaid borders. Early 19th c. Light wear.
