Circa 1917 finished charcoal by John Singer Sargent (American, 1856-1925) widely considered the leading portraitist of his day. Work is of Georges Clemenceau, French Prime Minister during the last part of WWI (1917-1920). Comes with an appraisal and report from David J. Sargeant of Washingtonian Appraisals done in 2014.

Dimensions are: Image size, 23 1/4" X 17". Overall size, 34" X 28". All measurements are approximate.

Provenance: A Maryland collection.


Crease to lower right of paper, small water stain to lower left. with a line of discoloration below that. Light aging to paper. None of this issues are inside the drawing itself. Fine.
