Napoleon III Ebonized, Boulle and Marble-Top Parlor Cabinet
third quarter 19th century, the rectangular marble top above a case fitted with a gilt-bronze acanthine and guilloche frieze over a single door inset with a Boulle-work panel, flanked to either side by acanthine and bellflower mounts, raised on a bracket base.
h. 45", w. 29", d. 14-1/2"
In good restored condition. The piece exhibits past laying-down of lifted veneers, some inpainting at
losses and scattered areas of bubbled veneer throughout. Some lifted brass, but generally it is secured
and in ready-to-use condition. Normal shrinkage and wear.
The marble top is in quite good condition, but somewhat dull and could use polishing to bring back the
depth of color.
There are scattered loose mounts throughout. A mount, about 1" x 3", is missing from just beneath the
top at the rear of one side.
Lock and key present, but the key does not function in the lock.
