19th century Japanese bronze / brass page turner with engraved blade and a handle with low relief Japanese lobster on one side and various engraved and overlayed white bronze sea shells. The blade is engraved with a bird on a flowering bush on one side and a brunch with bud on the other. Very clever design, sharp work with wonderful detailing - see finely defined shell textures and bumps on lobster’s body. Nice dark patina, wonderful object for a writing desk.
