(lot of 3) U.S. Civil War documents: (1) letter dated September 16, 1861 from George W McClellan, Second Assistant Post Master General to D.C. Buell (Don Carlos Buell, Major General, Union Army, b.1818, d.1898) regarding the distance between San Francisco and Washington, D.C. via New York, the opposite side a penciled letter to Major S. Williams, Assistant Adjutant General, Army of the Potomac (later Brigadier General, brevet Major General, delivered surrender documents between Grant and Lee, b. 1822, d. 1866), letter is regarding volunteer officers; (1) letter dated October 19, 1861 authorizing a leave of absence for Captain Chappel, 36th Regiment, N.Y. Volunteers (Chappel served until 1864 and saw action at Seven Pines, Malvern Hill, Chancellorsville, the letter sent to Francis A. Walker, Asst. Adjutant General who was later captured by Confederate forces and sent to Libby Prison, in 1866 he was promoted to Brevet Brigadier General from March 13, 1865 when he was 24 years old, 1840, d. 1897; (1) General Order No. 14, dated January 16, 1863, regarding the disposition of Fort Scott, Kansas Start Price: $40.00
