Lacquer and gold inro with mother-of-pearl inlays. Japan, late 18th to early 19th century
A very finely executed, unusual depiction. The smooth background has a blackish red-brown color, with scrolls or scroll paintings in takamaki-e with gold and especially gold kirigane on both sides, below branches of a prunus tree with blossoms, some inlaid with luminescent mother-of-pearl. Very beautiful gold nashiji on the interior.
