A PAIR OF ITALIAN ROCOCO STYLE GILT BEECH ARMCHAIRS, LAST HALF 19TH CENTURY, the arched serpentine crest rail centering a Prince of Wales stylized feathers with leafy volutes within flower blooms issuing acanthus leaf scrolls, over a shaped shield form back, within acanthus scroll and flower bloom carved stiles, above a central leafy shield and cabochon carved detail, over bowed seats within open, upholstered arms, ending in leafy scroll carved hand terminals, raised on swan neck supports, the whole raised on acanthus leaf carved cabriole legs, joined by an arched acanthus leaf scroll carved skirt, centering a trefoil rocaille flourish; the whole with brilliant and mat gilding, and now in taupe suede upholstery. Surface scratches, rubbing throughout, losses to gesso, gilt and some carving. Apparent professional repairs with later gold inpainting. Under seat needing some reupholster. Mild stains on upholstery, but otherwise in very good condition, wear commensurate with age and use.
