A NAPOLEON III GILT BRONZE AND PORCELAIN MOUNTED TULIPWOOD JEWELRY CHEST, THIRD QUARTER 19TH CENTURY, the shaped rectangular hinged lid centering a conforming domed panel and an oval Sevrés style bleu celeste ground plaque, colorfully painted with a pair of classically robed cherubs holding a white dove, framed by cast ribbon tied blossoming foliage, within beaded trim and cross banded border clad with vine and grape cluster detailed bronze, surmounted by a fruiting flower filled basket finial flanked by paired loving doves, opening to a later cedar lined interior fitted with a removable tray, enclosed by serpentine sides having panels inlaid a quatre face and Sevrés style plaques of allegorical love cherubs, alternating Sevrés style pilasters depicting finely rendered floral clusters, flanked by "C" scroll handles, raised on an ovule modeled bronze trimmed plinth and scrolling acanthus detailed sabots. Height: 9" Width: 16" Depth: 10 1/4"


Overall good condition, probably had been a tantalus and later repurposed into a jewelry case. The tulipwood veneer is a little dry and just needs light cleaning followed by a good waxing. The left pilaster has a repaired crack, some minor surface buildup and discolorations of bronze throughout. Includes one key.
