A FRENCH DIRECTOIRE BRASS MOUNTED WALNUT COMMODE, 18TH/19TH CENTURY, the rectangular top with a molded edge, over three drawers with book matched veneer, flanked by fluted stiles, and raised on tapered, square feet, joined by a restrained, shaped apron, retaining original purchase label, "Henry Stern, Royal Street, New Orleans, LA., 1960." Height: 34 3/4" Width: 37 1/2" Depth: 18 1/8"
The top has probably been replaced with banded mahogany, later Louis Philippe style, shield form escutcheons added, original locks now lacking and filled, hardware replaced, some apparent filled holes on drawer fronts, overall in very good condition, wear commensurate with age and use.
