(Tennessee/New York/France 1853-1925) Portrait of Knoxville, Tennessee Mayor Peter Staub (1827-1904). The portrait is dated "1910" and signed "Branson" lower right. Oil on board, unframed but accompanied by the original plaque which hung below the piece. H43" W32" Note: Peter Staub is noted for his influence in the diverse culture of Knoxville during his time as mayor between 1874-1881. He was a Swiss Immigrant and played a crucial role in post-war development in this area building the first playhouse, starting public schools and establishing the first fire department. This piece is sold from Staub's family collection.
