MEITNER LISE: (1878-1968)

Lot 0379
MEITNER LISE: (1878-1968) Austrian Physicist who worked on radioactivity and nuclear physics. Meitner famously refused an offer to work on the Manhattan Project during World War II, declaring 'I will have nothing to do with a bomb'. Fountain pen ink signature ('Lise Meitner') and date, 3rd September 1950, in her hand on an oblong 12mo piece evidently neatly clipped from a page removed from an autograph album. Annotated in the hand of a collector and with an unidentified signature and inscription in German to the lower half of the piece. Two heavy ink blots appear at the head of the page, only very slightly affecting a couple of letter of Meitner's signature. G £150-200
