Very Rare Large Antique 8 inch Nautical Maritime Kelvin-White (Danforth) Constellation Compass, circa 1940s | This is a large 70 year old Kelvin-White 8 inch Compass | Item is a Genuine fully functional 70 year old compass with all parts (and water inside, no leaks) | Condition: Very Fine. Excellent Condition (Curator has not seen a finer example), Virtually no rust, glass is clear, metal has no dents and holds a pristine shine | Measures approx. 10_ H, 9.5_ Diameter at Base, 8_ Diameter at top. Originally designed in the 1940s by Wilfrid G. White of the Kelvin White Co., the Constellation series compasses were available in 5_,6_,7_ and 8_ sizes with the Kelvin-White name on them. The Kelvin-White company became the Wilfrid O. White and Sons Co. and the Constellations were made under that name until 1961 when Danforth bought the company and used the name Danforth-White on the compasses, finally dropping the White name in the late 1960Õs to become Danforth compasses. Danforth added a 4_ constellation to the line. Constellations are still manufactured today.
