A Beautiful Pair of 18/19th C. Chinese huanghuali square low chairs with beautiful grain structure and wicker tops. A rectilinear frame encloses a woven mat surface. The cabriole legs are joined by angled stretchers to keep the chairs rigid. The HuangHuaLi wood is dense and has been expertly polished to give a glinting sheen as the light hits the surface. Some grain structures may be likened to the shape of ghost faces.
