Description
1843 1st ed NAVY Officer’s Manual Studied by Ulysses S Grant at West Point

Darcy Lever was a 19th-century British expert on navigation and seamanship. Lever is best remembered for his work ‘The Young Sea Offer’s Sheet Anchor’, a work which became the leading authority on ship rigging and ship crew responsibilities until the end of the 19th-century. This work also had a influence beyond the Royal Navy; known to have been read and studied by Ulysses S Grant while at West Point. This first American edition was published in 1843 and is littered with more than 100 illustrated engravings of important ships, rigging, knots, ropes, and types of masts and supports by George Blunt. Blunt and Lever together describe improvements that had been made to ship parts including upgrades that were created specifically for U.S. Navy ships.
