Two colors sketches for the Adelphi College Mural "Painting". Casein & Wax Emulsion on Board - signed and inscribed verso, board - 9" high x 5.5" wide; sight - 6.5" high x 4.5" wide, in good condition, fine craquelure, matted, not framed. Colored pencil on paper with paper collaged aspects - signed lower right, 10" high x 6.5" wide, light skinning upper right, some collaged areas lifting, framed behind glass, not examined out of frame. Abraham Joel Tobias (American, 1913 - 1996) was a painter, muralist, and educator in New York City and the pioneer of shaped canvases in the 1930's. From the Rego Park, Queens, NY estate of the artist.
