This is a very fine dagger of the Austrian Bundesstaat, constructed out of solid nickel, celluloid off white grip, pommel is in the shape of a crown of the Emperor Rudolf II, with U-shaped bracket and a small knob on the crossguard for securing a portepee, enamel insignia on the crossguard, blade is stamped by Vienna maker "ZEITLER WIEN VIII." The dagger is a rare and difficult to find, because after the Anschluss in 1938, Austrian officers German Luftwaffe daggers and apparently the Austrian models were returned for recycling.
