Kashmir Sapphires are the most famous sapphires in the world, and are almost never seen, except in museums or photographs. They are so highly valued and sought after due to their superb cornflower blue color and a sleepy quality that is often described as "blue velvet". These incredibly gemstones almost never come on the open market, and when they do they sell for over thousands of dollars per carat. In April 2007, a 22.66 carat cushion-cut Kashmir sapphire (set in a pendant surrounded by diamonds) was sold at auction for $3,064,000, setting a record for a sapphire at $135,000 per carat. That particular gemstone was described by gemologists as "a nice stone", indicating that it was far from the finest sapphire from Kashmir. This sapphire has been graded by Gueblin and shows no indications of heating. The sapphire is surrounded by approx. 0.45ctw genuine VS1-VS2/G-H round-cut diamonds, which are set in white gold to best display their radiant white color. The table of the ring measures approx. 12.5mm x 11mm, and the band measures approx. 2mm wide. The inside of the band is stamped with designer hallmarks, along with the gold purity. Ring size: 6.25 (WEIGHT: 4.4 grams) Please note: This piece will come with a $75,000 insurance valuation report in the winning bidder's name by a graduate appraiser.
