Date Published: 1934

Volume I: The Tomb of Painted Basket and Other Two Tombs of Lo-Lang, being a Report of the Excavations in the Season of 1931 Carried out by the Society of the Study of Korean Antiquities. Illustrated including tipped-in color frontispiece and 131 plates from photographs and drawings, some folding. 31½x24½ cm (12½x9¾") slate cloth, gilt-lettered spine. First Edition.

Early in the 20th century a great number of the ancient tombs of the T'ang Dynasty were excavated at Lo-Lang (also known as Lo-Yang) in present-day North Korea. During that ancient dynasty LoLang was under Chinese control. In 1931, Tomb No. 116 of Nanseiri, among other Han Dynasty tombs, was selected for research, and this unexpectedly revealed the most wonderful remains, including a painted basket in the perfectly preserved tomb.
