Scarce work on the Japanese woodblock artist Toyohara Kunichika. At the young age of 13, he was taken in as an apprentice by Tokyo's then-leading print maker, Utagawa Kunisada. His intensive knowledge and appreciation of kabuki drama led him to primarily produce ukiyo-e actor-prints, which are woodblock prints of kabuki actors and scenes from popular plays of the time.
