Heading: -1928
Author: Nakagawa, Karl S.
Title: The Rendezvous of Mysteries
Place Published: Philadelphia/New York
Publisher:Dorrance & Co.
Date Published: 1928
Description:

295 pages. (12mo), original purple cloth binding in dust jacket (signed "WD"). First Edition.

Near-legendary rarity, especially in dust jacket, being the obscure first novel published by a Nisei, American-born Japanese. It may also be the first mystery story by an Asian American. Written by a 22 year-old high school graduate, the son of an immigrant farmer, of greater scarcity than literary merit, the book has often been overlooked by scholars of Asian-American literature.

Nakagawa was a Californian, born in Sacramento - the setting for this book. He later inexplicably changed his name to Kay Karl Endow, became a pilot, and wrote another novel, almost equally scarce, with an aviation theme (see 1935 listing). He was subseuqnetly imprisoned for fraud in 1939, interned during World War II, and died in obscurity in 1948.

Condition

Chipping and wear to extremities of dust jacket; very good.
