NOAH WEBSTER (1758-1843). Historic American Lexicographer and Author, best known for his “An American Dictionary of the English Language”, published in 1828.
January 20, 1802-Dated, Partly-Printed Document Signed, New Haven (CT), 1 page, measuring 9” x 7.5”, Very Fine. A rare, typeset Stock Certificate, Reads; “This Certificate is evidence of the title of Timothy Phelps to one share, being the one hundredth part, of the property and interest in UNION SCHOOL HOUSE, and the lot on which it stands, together with the apportenances. – And the same is transferable according to the rules established by the proprietors.” The Document has vertical folds with partial splitting centerfold that does not affect the signature. The reverse shows numerous transfers of this share. Rarely encountered having a deep bold brown signature “Noah Webster” as Chairman of the Trustees. The first of this rarity we have offered.
NOAH WEBSTER (1758-1843). Webster is best known for his An American Dictionary of the English Language, published in 1828, which contains over 12,000 words and 40,000 definitions that had never before appeared in a dictionary.
