Very Rare 1757 North Carolina Colonial Five Pounds Note
North Carolina. November 21, 1757 Act, Hand Written Date. Five Pounds. “Payment” Not Hyphenated Listed Type. PCGS graded Very Fine-20.
Fr. NC-94. As with most notes of this rare North Carolina issue, this specimen has much original circulation and some scattered old collector repairs, the holder noted as apparent having multiple splits and tears, edges rebuilt. Overall, it appears quite whole and complete, well centered and nicely printed for this issue. Circulation accounts for the signatures and some manuscript portions to be light, yet still mostly visible. Signed by John Starkey and Thomas Barker. Typical period notations on its otherwise blank reverse. Overall, about on par with the Newman plate example as illustrated on page 318. A rare early North Carolina note lacking in most collections and graded as an above average PCGS certified November 21, 1757 Act note.
