Revolutionary War Sworn Statement Receiving Seven Beef Cattle for use of the Continental Army at Southington, CT.
July 19, 1781-Dated Revolutionary War Period, Manuscript Document, Invoice / Receipt for Beef for the Continental Army, provided by the Selectmen of the Town of Southington, CT, Choice Very Fine.
An original Revolutionary War Manuscript Document, measuring 11.5” x 7.5”, at Southington, (CT.), being an Invoice / Receipt for seven beef cattle estimated to weigh four thousand two hundred fifty pounds, to be used by the Continental Army for the month of July. Docket on the reverse side reads, in Full: “Southington Return & T. Lewis’s Rect. for Beef Cattle - July 1781”. - “Mr. Thomas Lewis Recpt. for the month of July”. With additional statement on the reverse reading: “August 1st 1782 - These Certify that the within Seven Beefs Cattle where (sic) of the first Quality as Set forth in the Act of the Genrl Assembly in May 1781 - Certified per - Jeb Lewis / Jonth Root - Estimaters (sic)”. This statement also being previously sworn to before the Justice of the Peace, John Curtis, July 19th, 1781. Boldly written in deep rich brown ink on clean laid watermarked period paper, and nice looking for display.
