1782 Revolutionary War Massachusetts Interest-Bearing Loan Certificate Rated as Low R-6 (Very Rare)
January 1, 1782-Dated Revolutionary War Period, Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Interest-bearing Certificate, Anderson MA-31, Choice Crisp Extremely Fine.
Rated as Low R-6 (Very Rare) by Anderson. Measuring 8” x 8.75” with Serial No. 2745. Minor 3/4” contemporary paper split repair at upper left blank reverse side and minor dampstaining in the lower right corner. An impressive, highly unusual example in that it was partially completed, never indented at left retaining its large notated margins on both sides, and never canceled. Its face value denominated as Nine Pounds, 11 Shillings, and 4 Pence, plus bearing Interest at 6% per annum. Both the principal and the interest were, “...to be paid in the several Species of Coined SILVER and GOLD...” A surprisingly complete, highly elusive piece of American Revolutionary War Massachusetts fiscal history, in remarkably high quality.
