December 18, 1847-Dated, HEADQUARTERS OF THE ARMY, MEXICO, General Orders No. 378, Court Martial Proceedings, Choice Very Fine.
This official US Army Document was signed by H. L. Scott during the Mexican-American War (1846-1848). It measures 5 1/2" x 8" and is three pages in length. The document highlights the court martial proceedings and sentences of Private Patrick Shallon and Private Lawrence Gahaghiun. Both soldiers were charged with thievery and convicted by the Military Commission. For their crimes, they received "forty lashes, less one, on his bare back, well laid on with a raw hide" (p. 1). Local Mexican civilians were also tried and sentenced. The edges of the document show normal wear and tear. There are several areas of foxing. Overall, condition of the document is very fine.
