This official US Army Document was signed by H.L. Scott during the Mexican-American War (1846-1848). It measures 5 1/2" x 8" and is five pages in length. The document is still bound with original thread. The document highlights the court martial proceedings and sentences of Second Lieutenant Edw. McD. Reynolds, Second Lieutenant J. N. G. Whistler, Private Richard Lakenan, Private Mathew Sweful, Private Henry Saguier, Private Felix Dobson, Private Edw'd Hoover, Private James Smith, Private Joseph Beatty, Private Peter Flynn, Private Agustus Iddler, Corporal William Ramsey, Private Charles Donivan, Private Samuel Waite. These men were charged by the Military Commission for an array of crimes such as: sleeping on duty, disobedience, violence against a superior officer, and desertion. Only Reynolds and Whistler were acquitted of all charges against them due to lack of evidence. Those who were convicted of their crimes had to forfeit their pay. "The Court found the prisoner guilty, as charged, and sentence him to forfeit five dollars of his pay per month for six months" (p. 3). Some men were even sentenced to hard physical labor for their crimes. The edges of the document are in good condition. There are several areas of foxing. Overall, condition of the document is very fine.
