1820 Campaign Pro-DeWitt Clinton Double-Page Broadside “Extra” for DeWitt Clinton’s NY Gubernatorial Campaign
April 14, 1820-Dated, Double-Page Broadside “Extra” promoting the New York Gubernatorial Campaign of DeWitt Clinton and John Tayler, Choice Very Fine.
Historic political Double-Page Broadside with each printed page measuring 21” x 15.5,” trivial scattered toning spots, one or two tiny holes along a vertical fold. Published by the ALBANY REGISTER EXTRA, as an unabashedly pro-DeWitt Clinton & John Tayler election piece. Clinton was running against DeWitt Clinton, a former friend and New York Governor. The fight was vitriolic, with charges and counterclaims made by each side. This was an early salvo in the “war of words" between the two camps, eventually leading to extra Broadside editions of both the Albany Register and the opposing Albany Argus just a few days later (look for these items nearby in this sale). A wonderful piece of historic and political import, ready for framing and display.
