Lot 0077
2cond /3erd century B.C; the height, 6 “, Yellow green with deep Cornflower blue neck ; shoulders, lip, body and handles, are yellow green, the color becomes apparent when held to a bright light source; neck and shoulders decorated with horizontal threading are in an intense shade of azure blue; body decorated with tight controlled drag looping ,base final of green; in natural light, the example displays black with white /tan looping, having easily discernible green handles; The overall condition is wonderful not withstanding a tiny no harm heat check in one handle, otherwise all original undamaged condition. It’s interesting to think that while Julius Caesar and Cleopatra VII had their time together, that this Amphoriskos was in fact an antique , hundreds of years old ,they were probably collected by the Romans; ex. Dorothy Lee Jones Museum Collection.
