It is our privilege to present to you this rare beautiful antique partial set from Limoges pattern commissioned by Higgins and Seiter, who were one of the highest end French, English & German imported china wholesaler and retailer in the United States during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. New York City, was home to the showroom, located at 52 & 54 West 22nd St. Founded in the mid 1860’s, a partnership was formed in 1887 including Colonel Seiter (7th Regiment) Barton B & Arthur Higgins. Beginning with imported china, which was unique, as every pattern showcased was a Higgins & Seiter exclusive Contract design! By 1892, Higgins & Seiter advertisements were also featuring fine quality cut lead crystal ware. Incorporated in 1906. Col Seiter passed on Oct 19, 1910, and this began a downward trend, including an abortive move in 1913 to 9 East 37th Street, until their closing in 1915 after being in business for over fifty years. During a 20 year span ca. 1885-1905, Higgins & Seiter operated a very successful shop in that poor & downtrodden town of Newport, Rhode Island! Because one of their main selling points was exclusivity, each of these retailer-bespoke patterns was produced in very limited amounts. Also, the high society clientele of an outfit like Higgins & Seiter were the type acutely conscious of fashion and would be mortified at the prospect of using a china a pattern that was ten years out of date or even five years out of date. As a result, these patterns came and went in short order and replacements are almost impossible to find.
