Lot 0028
Quarried from Mosaic Lake in the Green River Formation of Southern Wyoming and unearthed by hand, this striking mural contains a 28.5-in. fossilized Gar Simplex. This is one of only a few hundred complete specimens of a large fossilized Eocene Gar ever discovered at the Green River Quarry. Gar are an ancient order of ray-finned fish; fossils from this order are known from the Late Jurassic Period. Only a fraction of life makes it into the fossil record, and a fossil gar of this degree of completeness is rare and highly prized.
