Set of Six French Provincial Henri II Carved Oak Dining Chairs, c. 1880, Brittany, the arched crests with spindled wheels above figural backsplats, above spindled galleries, flanked by finialed turned tapered reeded stiles over embossed seats on turned tapered reeded legs joined by H-form stretchers, on toupie feet, H.- 42 1/2 in., W.- 17 1/2 in., D.- 17 in.
Condition consistent with age and use. Discoloration evident on all leather seats. One chair top finial is loose—evidence of a repair with some glue residue. One chair has minor chip in seatback towards lower center. Surface scratches present on back proper left leg. One chair shows evidence of repair on crown with glue residue. Surface scratches present on leg. One chair has seat slight loose from base. Crown piece shows signs of splintering. Surface scratches present on legs and stretchers. Oxidation present on tack decoration. A lovely set.
