Taken from a reprint issue of the 1826 edition of Henri Callot's A journey in North America... The author had an adventurous career; served in the American Revolution, returned to France where he rose to Major General. Named governor of Guadeloupe in 1793 he was captured by the British during the napoleonic wars. Sent to Philadelphia to answer legal charges brought by local merchant. He was rescued and saved then asked by the French ambassador Pierre Adet the scientist, to undertake the trip. Ex-library, fold browning, dry and fragile.
