The collected poetry of one of the original Hartford Wits and a satirist of the American Revolution, whose “M’Fingal” was “a cherished possession of the American people in an era when good native poets weren’t plentiful” (DAB). Though Trumbull’s poetic production dropped off after the Revolution when he turned to law and politics, this collected edition in the later years of his life is testament to his popularity as a poet.
