A Very large Genre Figural Oil Painting After the Important English artist William Powell Frith (1819 - 1909) | The colorful painting depicts a 19th Century social scene in the style of William Powell Frith | Housed in a very large ornate gold gesso wood frame | This Large painting measures 5.25 feet wide and 4.3 feet high (63" wide x 51.5" high) | | . William Powell Frith (19 January 1819 - 9 November 1909) was an English painter specializing in genre subjects and panoramic narrative works of life in the Victorian era. He has been described as the "greatest British painter of the social scene since Hogarth". The painting depicts a colorful early 19th Century social scene under a glass atrium. Notes: Its interesting that the artist chose a subject and style that could be described as a more realism version of another Genre painter of the same period - the post-impressionist Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. The colors and movement in the painting remind's one of Toulouse-Lautrec's At The Moulin Rouge, The Dance (1890, Paris). The painting seems to also borrow from many of Renoir's best known works including Le Moulin de la Galette (Pierre-Auguste Renoir, 1876), the Luncheon Of The Boating Party (Pierre-Auguste Renoir, 1881), or even Dance in the Country (Pierre-Auguste Renoir, 1883).
