19th Century Italian Portrait Oil Painting by important and well listed Italian artist Guerrino Guardabassi (Italy, 1841-1893) | Signed original oil on canvas painting | Depicts an interiorscape with a French courtesan flirting with an older gentleman / nobleman | A remarkable finely painted example of Guardabassi's best work | Signed by the artist in the lower left of the canvas; signature is clear | Housed in what appears to be the original ornate gold gilt gesso wood antique frame | Approx. Dimensions: Image measures 17 3/4" x 13 3/4"; Frame measures 30" H x 26" W | Mild craquelure, Frame has minor loss to gilding. Guerrino Guardabassi (1841-1893 Italy)Â actively painted in Rome and Paris throughout most his life; he trained at the Accademia di San Luca in Rome, and later worked for the Goupil establishment in Paris. Guardabassi is best known for his historic images, portraits and landscapes, which he typically painted in the traditional style of the 19th-Century Italian School.
