This is an old and field used carved wooden mask from the Dan peoples, Cote ,West Africa. This mask originates from the central Ivory Coast and is an original "Passport" maskette, a smaller hand held sized mask carried with a traveler who wanted to bring some of his Power mask's "magic" with them on the road as protection.This mask features the broad protruding forehead and the open mouth with slit coffee bean shaped eyes. The mask forehead appears to have some red colored mineral pigment which is now mostly worn away. The back of the mask has some Magic "juju" sealed in a cavity with some organic matter. The top of the mask shows some weather decay. The mask measures 4.25 x 2.75 inches
