This is a Prussian Model 1855 Pioneer's Short Sword with cast brass and ribbed grip. These swords were carried by specialist pioneer troops who were responsible for clearing undergrowth and building defences . This type of sword was designed with a heavy blade for utility work. 24" overall with 18 3/4" blade that is 1 14" at ricasso. Blade is unfullered. Brass guard is marked 102.R.4.71. Leather scabbard shows wear and flaking to finish. Scabbard has shrunk some, nd the sword does not fit all the way in. Mounts are brass and the throat is marked and has a oval frog stud. The chape is loose. Very Good
