Regency Mahogany Linen Press

early 19th century, the molded and dentillated cornice above a paneled frieze and over a case fitted with two doors, each banded and inset with a highly figured oval panel, the lower section fitted with two short drawers over two graduated long drawers, all banded, raised on splayed legs.
h. 83", w. 50", d. 24"

In "as found" condition. The piece exhibits normal scuffs and wear, including some small spots of lifted/bubbled veneer. There is an area of loss, about 4" long, now filled but partly lifting to the stringing and banding on one of the door panels. There is a loss to the crossbanded veneer on the bottom of a door, about 3" long. On one side of the case there is an area of filler and scrubbed finish around it, about 2" x 3". There are chips and losses to the trim molding on top of the base, where the top rests. The losses are on both sides. Locks present; no key. The brass pulls are mismatched; a couple are loose and one missing its backplate. There are two holes in the back of the case, about 2-1/2" diameter, presumably for electric plugs. The interior is fitted with a slide-out shelf flanked by a bank of drawers.
