Italian Carved Marble Bust of "Clytie"
19th century, after the ca. 45 CE Roman antique acquired by the British collector Charles Townley (1737-1805) from a noble Neapolitan family and now conserved at the British Museum, London, on a socle base, set upon a black marble columnar plinth.

In overall good estate condition. Scattered nicks, abrasions and areas of discoloration/soiling. A few small (approx. 1/8" dia.) filler repairs, including above proper left breast, left shoulder, right breast, base of foliate rim and scattered other areas. Some losses and old repair to foliate rim at mid-left. Loss to ringlet
of hair at left. Socle base with chips and losses. Layer of surface soiling and dirt/accretions in more
deeply modeled areas. Plinth with losses, scratches and abrasions.
