Continental Ebonized, Bone and Marquetry-Inlaid Side Cabinet

late 19th century, the rectangular top and base with an alternating ebonized wood and bone striped inlay, the front fitted with one drawer above a fold-down door disguised as two drawers, above three more drawers, each inlaid with floral sprays and flanked by spiral-twist columns.
h. 33", w. 17-1/2", d. 16"

Condition

In very good restored condition. The ebonizing on the top is renewed. The piece exhibits normal shrinkage, minor mars, abrasions and wear consistent with age and use. The case is tight and very solid, exhibiting no movement or play at the joints. All drawers open and close freely. The fold-down door retains its original lock, opened by turning the knob. The bottom drawer shows restorations to the ebonized ground above the inlay, possibly with some filler.
