paper cut-out and watercolor/ink wash
signed, titled and dated lower center, sight 10" x 8-3/4"; together with William Seville (British, 1797-1866), "Silhouette Portrait of a Family", cut-out heightened with gold, "Mr. Seville" label en verso, inscribed with sitters' initials, paper embossed with "Thomas Creswick" seal, sight 8" x 10-1/4".
Each glazed in a period bird's-eye-maple frame.

Provenance: Estate of Dr. Carroll Ball, Jackson, Mississippi.

Condition

Boy with Dog: In generally very good condition with overall toning and areas of darkening/foxing. All consistent with age and material. Family: In generally fair condition. Hole at upper left, approx. 2" x 3/4", with corresponding staining/discoloration. Circular impression at center. Old repair/tear at lower right below man's foot. Cut to hem of child's dress. Crease at upper right. Slight crease along mid-right edge. Staining to man's cravat. Brownish accretion at mid-left edge. Scattered foxing.
