Antique 19th Century (1867) hand-colored aquatint etching after Plate 2 of the four famous fox-hunting scenes painted by English artist John Frederick Herring Sr. (1795-1865), titled Breaking Cover. The etching depicts a large group of hunters on horsebacks and their howling dogs charging across a small stream into an open field. The mens bright jackets stand out vividly against the gray fall English landscape around them. The pieces title and series are printed in large black letters in the upper and lower margins. The plate was etched by J. Harris; both artists names are printed in-plate in the lower margin, along with the pieces publishing info (London, October 1867, R. Dodson). The print is presented behind glass in a wooden frame with speckled gold and silver-toned stripes. A wire is attached to the verso of the piece for hanging | Etching is in Good Condition -paper is yellowed, consistent with age. Water damage is visible along the lower margin. The frame is covered in scratches. Dimensions 37.6" W x 25.6" H x 1.5" D
