A carved Chinese white jade, in the shape of a deer, rear facing toward left shoulder, rest on four legs in relaxing position. Its mouth grasp a branching Lingzhi fugus down to left hip. The jade shows moist milky appearance with clean even tone translucent.
Deer is symbol of longevity because it can live for very long time. It is only animal capable of searching out the fungus of immortality. Also, the animal who accompanies ShuoLao, the God of Longevity, as well as other Immortals. The deer is a pun for emolument or official salary (lu), it can be symbolize the God of Rank and Emolument (Luxing). Its name is also a homophonous with road (Lu) and Six (Liu).
